Clawed Beginner Guide: Start the Demo Without Missing the Route
A practical Clawed Demo starting checklist: choose a mode, follow the opening route, manage saves, and avoid relying on outdated key locations.
The short version
Clawed is a dinosaur survival-horror game set in the Prehistoria theme park. The current Steam page lists both single-player and online co-op, plus Classic and Survival modes. If you are starting with the Demo, expect to explore, collect supplies, solve environmental puzzles, and look for route clues rather than follow a traditional quest-marker walkthrough.
The safest first-run plan is:
- Start in Classic Mode if you want to learn the Demo route without Survival Mode’s extra hunger, thirst, weather, day/night, and random-encounter systems.
- Read the objective or note in front of you before leaving an area.
- Check the museum and staff areas carefully before searching the tunnels.
- Keep the Museum Key route and South Tunnel Key route open when a door blocks progress.
- If a video disagrees with the current Demo, prefer the developer’s latest patch notes: the South Access Tunnel entrance and key were moved during the Road to Release updates.
Classic or Survival?
The full Steam listing describes two modes:
- Classic Mode is the original Clawed survival-horror experience.
- Survival Mode adds hunger, thirst, dynamic weather, a full day/night cycle, and random dinosaur encounters.
For a first Demo route, Classic is the easier baseline because it lets you focus on landmarks, keys, notes, and puzzle progression. Survival is better treated as a separate challenge once you understand where the important doors and safe spaces are.
A clean opening routine
1. Read every note and objective
The developers have patched issues that previously prevented certain notes from being read. Notes can contain the difference between a puzzle clue and a dead end, so do not rush past interactable paper, boards, terminals, or phones.
2. Mark the areas you have already checked
The Demo’s park is easier to navigate if you remember three kinds of landmarks:
- Staff and medical areas — relevant to the Museum Key route.
- Main Street and the park attractions — useful for orienting yourself after the opening sequence.
- South Access Tunnel — a progression route whose entrance and key location changed in later Demo patches.
3. Treat old videos as snapshots
The official Road to Release patch notes say the South Access Tunnel entry was relocated and the South Tunnel Key was moved to an easier-to-find position. A video made before that patch may be useful for atmosphere, but its route can be wrong for the current Demo.
Playing with friends
Steam currently lists online co-op and single-player. Friends can explore, fight dinosaurs, and solve puzzles together, but the Demo has also had co-op and inventory fixes. If the group gets stuck, have the host verify that everyone is on the same current build before assuming the puzzle is broken.

The first rule for a stuck run
If an objective appears impossible, check these in order:
- Did everyone read the latest note or objective?
- Is the required key in the current patch location rather than an old video location?
- Is a teammate carrying the item but standing too far away for the interaction prompt?
- Did the game load an old save after a Demo update?
- Is the build current?
Do not publish a confident puzzle answer from memory. Clawed’s Demo has changed several routes and fixes, so every location guide should show its patch date and source.
